The Curse of the Spider-woman
I don't know what the deal is with me and spiders. They just won't leave me alone. Am I fated to be tormented by the nasty critters wherever I go?
At our last house in Brownsville there was a serious spider infestation problem, and I was quite glad to leave that behind when I moved...or so I thought.
In the three months that we've lived here, we've had to kill maybe two spiders--what seems a pretty normal amount to me. Then yesterday I spotted one in the corner and got my big strong husband to destroy it for me. Then, at 2:30 this morning I was up feeding Lucy when in the midst of my sleepy haze I realized that there on the arm of the couch, just inches away from me, was a small yellow spider.
To my credit, I did not scream, just jumped up and got a paper towel and smashed it. I sat back down to continue the feeding, but now I was a bit more waked up. I started looking around the room and spotted in the corner near the ceiling a great big black one! Then I caught a flicker of movement out of the corner of my eye, looked up and saw another spider running across the ceiling! It was unreal. I managed to get rid of them all, with the help of the cleaning tube attachment on the vacuum (I prefer to suck up large spiders, rather than smashing them. You don't have to get quite as close to them that way).
I really, really hate spiders. If this seige of eight-legged beasties continues, I am going to be very upset.

It seems like spiders tend to come out late at night. I hardly ever find spiders in my apartment, but if I get up at 1 or 2am, I occasionally find one. Of course, if the thought of them just being there is problem enough, then this probably isn't comforting. Personally, if I don't see them, (or, of course, feel them) I don't mind if they're there.
How did you like Trickster's Choice? Or, have you read it before?
Oh, only too true! I know exactly what you mean. My house in Corvallis had that problem, only every day I when I can home, I scanned the corners of the room and usually counted 5 or so, then I sucked them up, just like you do. I nearly bombed the place. With a bug bomb of course!
Naughty spiders! I remember I was in the middle of breast-feeding little B one time when a great big one landed on my chest. I practically threw B across the sofa screaming uncontrollably. Oh dear, no wonder B is terrified of spiders now!!
Spiders (and other creepy-crawly things, though other insects are a lesser evil to me) are one of my biggest phobias. The only nightmares I've ever had that I really remember had to do with bugs. So the thought that they might be there...lurking...worries me.
Devon, I liked "Trickster's Choice" pretty well. I thought it was better than the other Tamora Pierce books I had read (the Lioness books). However, I have to say that the main character's love interest was really lame.
I have the same problem, googled it
